In the absence of celebrities or Bollywood stars, the Indian Cricket League8217;s ICL Twenty20 season 2 got a cold response here as it failed to attract crowds or generate any excitement among cricket fans. Despite the fact that home team Chandigarh Lions was playing its match at Tau Devi Lal stadium in Panchkula under the flood lights on Friday night, but that failed to pull crowds.

Contrary to the claims of ICL officials that crowds will turn out to watch quality cricket and not to watch the dance performances of stars alone proved wrong.

Only about 25 per cent of the 7,000 capacity stadium was occupied. The handful of spectators witnessed the dance performance of Indian cheerleaders this time unlike last time when ICL had hired them from overseas.

Lalit Goel, a die-hard cricket fan, who watched with his family five of the seven Indian Premier League matches played at Mohali in April-May this year lamented that timings of the ICL matches also does not suit the families. 8220;I think the organisers of ICL have not taken into account the fact people will face difficulty to watch a match which continues close to midnight given the fact that onset of winters has started. Moreover, people have to travel a good distance to reach the Panchkula stadium, which is located at far end,8221; he said.

Ironically, unlike during its inaugural edition last year, the ICL is not holding any pre-match or post-match press conference in the stadium neither the media here was informed about the schedule of matches featuring Panchkula stadium.
