
Intelligence Bureau pointman for Jammu and Kashmir V K Joshi was today appointed Director General of Indo-Tibetan Border Police ITBP.
Despite being urged by the IB to continue handling its Kashmir department as special director, Joshi opted out after UPA government gave present IB director E S L Narasimhan a two-year fixed tenure on November 30 last year. Another special director, K.C. Verma, who was heading the IB8217;s anti-Naxalite wing, also opted out last year after the fixed tenure order and joined as head of the Narcotics Control Bureau.
An IPS officer of the 1971 batch from the Bihar cadre, Joshi will take over from N C Joshi who was holding the post of ITBP Chief as additional charge.
A recipient of the President8217;s Police Medal and Police Medal for Distinguished Services, Joshi is considered an exceptional officer who has spent nearly two decades handling sensitive departments in the Intelligence Bureau.
He has several successful counter-insurgency operations in militancy-hit states to his credit.
