Dropped from the Indian team after the disastrous campaign in the one-dayers in South Africa, Mohammed Kaif has finally given vent to his feelings, questioning why the Board and the selectors didn8217;t bother to give him an explanation for the decision to axe him from the ODI team.
8220;I was not told why I was dropped,8221; a candid Kaif told mediapersons this afternoon when asked about what has been going wrong with his batting lately. Kaif is in the city for two days to play for employers Indian Airlines in the CCFC Twenty20 carnival.
Speaking his mind on the issue of getting ignored for the two home ODIs against the West Indies, Kaif went on to question the selectors8217; decision. 8220;In fact, I was doing quite well, but I was dropped and I don8217;t know why. I have been averaging in the 30s batting at No 6 and No 7,8221; the fielder extraordinaire explained in his defence.
Asked if he pondered what could be the reason behind the selectors8217; decision to leave him out, Kaif said: 8220;Ask the captain and the selectors, they should know, I can8217;t comment on that.8221;
When pointed that the failures in South Africa could have influenced the decision to keep him out of the ODI scheme of things, Kaif blamed on the think-tank8217;s ploy to bat him at No 3 in the one-dayers against the Proteas. 8220;When you are asked to bat at a new position, you need time to adjust to that, which was the No 3 position in my case,8221; Kaif said.
Kaif8217;s next task is to concentrate on the four Ranji Trophy one-dayers, and not just plan only for the World Cup. 8220;The World Cup is obviously important. But I want to keep things simple. I am planning for the immediate future, and focus now is the four Ranji one-dayers,8221; he explained.
