Other than Hrithik Roshan, you are the only real competition to the three Khans. Then why are you so underrated?
My teacher once drew a small line and asked me if I could make it shorter. I tried to cut it but it didn’t work. He then said if I draw a bigger line next to it, the first line would become shorter. I’ve been making my own line in the industry for 13 years and that’s what I’ll be doing till they shoot me down.

Aren’t the promos of Mujhse Shaadi Karogi Salman Khan-centric?
I saw the film while dubbing and was happy with my role. I follow a simple funda. The movie should run irrespective of how much footage I get in the trailers.

You and Salman have done a dance number wearing leaf skirts. What was the mood like while shooting?
Yeah, we dance to impress the girl. We weren’t feeling awkward because there is no scope for awkwardness in this line. We had to do a beach dance and couldn’t have worn a three-piece suit. I think Salman and I complement each other well. He’s very good looking, down-to-earth and fit. We have amazing on-screen chemistry.

Your personal life is still fodder for film glossies. Comment.
I think after my marriage, it has become 90 per cent less. It’s funny, but lots of times, these rumours are spread by colleagues. I can confront them, but I won’t.

Almost all your ex-girlfriends have spoken against you in print. You never react. Why is that?
Yeah, it’s happened sometimes that my love life has not been successful and the girl talks to magazines. But I can never do that because whenever I’ve loved someone, I’ve loved truly. So I won’t talk about it. I am a perfect gentleman.

How does your wife Twinkle Khanna react to all the gossip?
She handles everything with grace and laughter.

Do you recommend heroines to directors?
I never tell a director you have to take this girl or I won’t do the film. I see a lot of Gujarati plays and if I like the acting of any character artistes, I mention their names to my directors also. But people only talk about the heroines. And then a new story begins.

Is there any awkwardness between you and Priyanka Chopra after the link-up rumours?
No, not at all.

What’s happening with the martial arts school you were planning to build?
I haven’t got any help from the government. But after the National Geographic show (Seven Deadly Arts with Akshay Kumar), there has been a 20 to 30 per cent increase in enrollments for karate. That I could promote my art in some way has been the biggest achievement of my life. I’m doing something more, but it’s too early to talk about that.

When is your film with Jackie Chan rolling?
Too early to say… God knows. Let’s see.

Okay, set the record straight. Do you really take a bath with Bisleri?
(Laughs) I don’t know how this rumour came about. I have a lovely tap at home and a lovely building with 24 hours water supply. I don’t need Bisleri at all. Now if they’d said I take a bath with milk, that would have been something. Not that I use milk either.
