CHANDIGARH, April 8: The Housing and Urban Development Corporation HU-DCO has sanctioned 60 projects worth Rs 681.75 crore in Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir in 1998-99, committing loans to the tune of Rs 476.78 crore to housing and urban development agencies.

P.S. Khurana, regional manager, HUDCO Chandigarh region, said the corporation released loans worth Rs 139.96 crore in 1998-99 against Rs 122.26 crore in the previous year. Of this, over Rs 73 crore was released for the construction of 20,428 units for the economically-weaker sections and 6,122 LIG dwelling units, he added.

He said the corporation also sanctioned Rs 29.45 crore for the construction of 18,312 houses for the homeless poor in the rural areas of Himachal Pradesh, Rs 45.76 crore for the construction of 5,514 units at Faridabad and Bahadurgarh, Rs 8.84 crore for the development of 2,116 sites and 972 LIG units in Punjab and Rs 18.88 crore for the construction of 537 units for cooperative housing societies in Jamp;K.

In the area of land acquisition and urban infrastructure, HUDCO has sanctioned a major land acquisition scheme with a project cost of Rs 70 crore, agreeing to grant a loan of Rs 56 crore to the Amritsar Improvement Trust for the development of New Amritsar.
