NEW DELHI, July 13: The special meeting of the MCD House convened to discuss the sanitation drive degenerated into a slanging match on the issue of a Congress councillor not being invited for a function held in his ward by BJP MP K.L. Sharma and MLA Vinod Sharma.

Congress councillor Mahabal Mishra alleged that though MCD officials were present at a function held in Naseerpur, he was not invited for the ceremony. When Leader of the Opposition Dr Narendra Nath said that the leader of the House should have died of shame before letting this happen all hell broke loose. The House was adjourned for 15 minutes. Municipal Commissioner V.K. Duggal later said that the function was not organised by the MCD and the officials were only on a routine visit. When the House was convened after the meeting, he placed before it the work done during the month-long sanitation drive.

The House also unanimously decided that the families of the five youths who died of asphyxiation on July 11 would be compensated and jobs would be offered if the family had lost its only earning member.
