A fast-track court in Rajasthan sentenced three persons to jail on Thursday after finding them guilty of raping a Japanese tourist in Pushkar.
The court sentenced prime accused Babloo, manager of the hotel where the tourist was allegedly raped, to seven years in jail. His mother Roshni and brother Raju were handed over three-year terms each. Two other accused in the rape were acquitted.
The tourist had filed a complaint with the police in April, alleging rape by Babloo, manager of the hotel where she was staying.
The tourist had claimed that she was sexually assaulted after she became unconscious after sipping a drink laced with intoxicants.
The incident had come to light after the victim faxed her complaint to the Ajmer police from Agra and demanded action against the accused. The five accused were arrested by the police after the victim identified them as her tormentors.
The case had taken a curious twist after a German tourist came to the rescue of the accused, saying the victim was lying. She had claimed that the victim was with her on the night of the alleged incident.
The police, however, filed a challan within a month. Overcoming the difficulties in translating the victim’s testimony, the court decided the case in three months.
