
CHANDIGARH, Dec 13: Sri lankan girls were rendered a lesson in the art of cricket by New Zealand with a 165-run defeat in a Pool B league match of the sixth Hero Honda Women’s World Cup here at the Sector 16 Stadium today.Chasing New Zealand’s 236 for three in 50 overs, Sri Lanka chose not to go for the runs and still their entire batting line-up was snuffed out for 71 in 47.4 overs.
In the morning, Kiwi opener Debbie Hockley scored her first century (100 n.o.) in World Cup. She was joined by Katrina Withers and the two raised an unbeaten 110 runs which is a World Cup record for the fourth wicket.
