
CHANDIGARH, March 3: The Chandigarh senior men8217;s hockey camp is in progress at the Sector 42 Hockey Stadium. The 30 odd probables are going through their paces in preparation for the National hockey championship to be held at Hyderabad from March 10 to 26.
The camp, which commenced from February 20, had 40 campers in the first week. However, the number come down to 30 in the second week. And the final 16-member team will be announced on March 11.
In the last edition of the meet Chandigarh was runners-up in its pool but were unable to enter the last eight stage. However, the officials of the Chandigarh Hockey Association CHA are confident that the team will reach the quarterfinal stage in the forthcoming meet. 8220;The players are fit, and would perform well,8221; said SN Vohra, secretary, CHA.
If the secretary is to be believed, the team would figure in the last eight. However, before that they might have to clear some hurdles, to top their pool.
Chandigarh is clubbed in pool G8217;. The other teams in the fray are: Karnataka, Central Excise and Customs, Delhi, Tata Sports and Madhya Pradesh.
