PATIALA, Sept 15: Punjab is the only state in the country committed to the development of Hindi along with Punjabi, the director, Languages Department, Dr Madan Lal Hasija, has said.

Delivering the presidential address at a function organised by the Languages Department to observe Hindi Diwas yesterday, he said the state government was committed to safeguard the interests of languages besides Punjabi.

Speaking on the occasion, additional director of the department Rachpal Singh Gill said the government had drafted many projects to promote Hindi.

Dr Navratan Kapoor, Dr Brij Mohan Sharma, Dr Yoginder Bakshi and Inder Singh Tiwana delivered lectures at a symposium on quot;Hindi as a language and its development in the countryquot;. Rekha Chopra of Government Senior Secondary School, New Power Colony, Patiala, and Sushma Sabharwal of Government Middle School, Bursat, were special invitees.

In the second phase, Nand Kishore, Rajneesh, H.K. Garg, Dr Brij Mohan Sharma, Dr Yoginder Bakshi and Dr Prem Prasad presented poems at a kavi sammelan.
