Mummy, I8217;m home, where are you?quot; said 13-year-old Hina as she entered her house. quot;I8217;m here in the kitchen,quot; said Mrs Mehra, Hina8217;s mother. Hina ran to the kitchen and said, quot;I have won the first prize in essay writing competition that was held last week. I really did not expect it.quot; quot;Oh really, I8217;m so happy,quot; said her mother, giving Hina a huge hug.

quot;Well, what shall we make for dinner today? It8217;s your day today and today8217;s dinner menu will also be your8217;s,quot; said Mrs Mehra, turning towards the gas stove. quot;Humph,quot; said Hina, quot;Can you make chole-puri, mmm. No, you better make pav bhaji. Yes, we will have it for dinner today.quot; Pav Bhaji! The thought of eating it made her mouth water. She longed for night to come. She had her lunch, ran to her room and started reading a story book. Her mother came in to see what Hina was doing. When she saw her reading a story book she said, quot;Hina, this is not what you should read. Instead of reading story books, you should read newspapers.quot; quot;But mummy, story books improve my English and also entertain me. quot; Hina argued. quot;Well, I8217;m not against story books but you should also read newspapers.

They will not only entertain you and improve your English but also give you more information about the world you live in. You can create a hobby out of it. By reading the topics which you feel are interesting, and cut and stick them in a book. You can call that book your hobby book. You can also write a thought at the top of every page by yourself,quot; saying this her mother left the room.

Hina thought it was worth trying. And on the very first day she had five cuttings in the book. She wrote a thought neatly on that page. After doing this, she had an afternoon nap. She woke up at eight when it was almost dinner time. Hina could smell the aroma of bhaji coming from the kitchen.

Jumping up from the bed, she washed her face and hands and ran down to have dinner. quot;Mmmm8230; deliciousssss,quot; she said and ate as much as she could. The next morning Hina woke up and got ready for school. She kept her hobby book in her bag as it was the last day of the semester and a hobby contest was to be held at her school. Most of the students in her class had stamp collections, paintings, coin collections and sea shells as their hobby. The teacher announced the results and said, quot;The first prize for the best hobby goes to Miss Hina Mehra. She has had a very informative hobby. And she has written a thought on every page. Hina, did you write these thoughts all by yourself?quot; quot;Yes, ma8217;am, said Hina. The teacher continued, quot;Oh, I see. And of course you have improved your English. Your thoughts are written in very good English. Keep it up,quot; she finished. The whole class clapped and cheered for Hina.

Cycling home, Hina thought, quot;Ooo8230; what a wonderful day it was. I wouldn8217;t have won the prize if mummy had not given me this idea. It has given me information and also improved my English. Thanks to you, dear newspaper!quot;
