CODE-ING WOMEN

Last week, the lawns of the US Club, along with a few fashion conscious individuals, got a glimpse of what Barcode8217;s Summer 2000 Collection is all about.

The collection was all about western wear for the urban Indian woman, be it casual, formal or evening wear. For women of all sizes, but it was still shown on svelte aneroxic models, making it difficult to picturise it otherwise.

Nevertheless, a good collection, with simple cuts in materials which are easy to maintain. Check them out the next time you8217;re at Colaba, coz that8217;s where the boutique is situated.

INDIA REDISCOVERED

All ye lovers of India, this is specially for you! National Geographic Channel is going to showcase six thiry-minute programs about things that happen in India which the majority of Indians are unaware of.

Titled India Diaries, the topics chosen are interestingly varied. They are Elephant Trouble, Miracles, Mela Madness, Salt, The Land Where Women Reign and Hunting, all of which have been filmed at places where these topics take place.

Apparently, according to the film-makers, these were some of the few fascinating aspects of India that people hardly know about and they had left a lasting impression on them when they had initially come across them. So when they got the go-ahead for this project, they used these topics.

Sounds very intriguing, but the only problem is that it is going be aired sometime in September or October. Sad, na?

SURVEY THIS

Cartoon Network and AC Nielson have just finished a three-month long survey of 7600 kids across Asia and have presented their results. The kids were asked a variety of questions, right from what their fav brands are, to what they wanted to become when they grew up.

And the results were amazing. In India, for example, stunning percentages reveal that children from the age group of 7 to 18 actually PREFER to study rather than spend time with friends, or play sports or even have a bf/gf!! Maybe that explains why all the IT professionals who are leaving for the US and why India loses in Test matches.

This is the second time that such a survey has been conducted, although this time the survey was much larger. In fact, Cartoon Network claims that this is the largest survey on kids in the entire Asia-Pacific region.

Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber, AR Rahman and Shekar Kapur got together last week to announce that they8217;d be getting their individual talents together and would soon produce a musical based on life in Bombay. The musical has been tentatively titled Bombay Dreams and the cast has not yet been selected or decided.

Apparently, Sir Andrew, creator of other great musicals such as Evita, Cats, Phantom of the Opera and Jesus Christ Superstar, was blown away by apna AR Rahman8217;s musical talent. The cast for the musical wiil be selected from the Indian community around the world and Webber also said that he would be not be interested in hiring a big star for the lead role. Wonder why. Could it be funds?
