Hedges removed in Sector 40

CHANDIGARH, Nov 23: The enforcement staff of the Municipal Corporation of Chandigarh removed quot;unauthorisedquot; structures from the road berms in Sector 40-B here today amidst resentment by the residents.

The hedges and angle irons from the road berms were removed by enforcement staff, led by Assistant Commissioner S.M. Sharma. A police force also accompanied them. The residents alleged the MC was adopting a pick-and-choose policy and authorities didn8217;t serve any notice on them. The MC officials said the public notices were published in newspapers, and announcements were made in the sector three days prior to carrying out the operation.

The officials added that most of the residents were very cooperative as some of them removed the encroachments on their own.
