
CHANDIGARH, Sept 9: Heavy rain lashed several parts of the city for the second consecutive day, disrupting normal life during late afternoon. While western parts of the city received heavy rain, the eastern parts, Manimajra and Panchkula experienced only light showers. Though the skies were clear in the morning, thundery conditions developed towards the afternoon.
The local meteorological office recorded a total of 6 mm rain till 5.30 pm, while the mercury dipped by over a degree since yesterday to 33.2 degrees Celsius. According to the weatherman, the rain, part of the monsoon, is the result of western disturbances over northern Pakistan, adjoining Jammu and Kashmir, and upper air cyclonic movements over western UP and adjoining areas.
PU MBA course
The Punjab University Business School is now associated with the Common Admission Test CAT of the Indian Institute of Management IIMS for admission to various courses such as MBA general, MBA international business and MBA human resources for 2000-2001. For the July admission to these programmes, aspirants will have to take the CAT on December 12, and apply separately to the University Business School. The University Business School advertisement appeared on August 30 and September 6. The advertisement for the CAT appeared on August 19, 20, 21 and 22. Last date for submission of the CAT form to the IIM, Lucknow, is October 12.
PU union demands FIR in blinding case The Panjab University Non-Teaching Employees Federation met here today and resolved to get an FIR registered in the matter of the wrongful blinding of a Panjab University employee, if the university authorities fail to do so, and to sue the doctor for compensation in the Consumer Forum. Federation members will assemble in front of the Administrative Office at 8.45 a.m. on Sunday to protest the incident.
According to a federation press release issued here today, Jagdish Ram, a record lifter in the Panjab University Music Department, consulted Dr Rajan Chugh of the Panjab University Health Centre about his eye problem. Chugh told Jagdish Ram to undergo surgery at his private eye clinic, Chugh Eye Micro Surgery Foundation Hospital in Sector 21-D on August 28. The surgeon erroneously and without the patient8217;s consent removed the man8217;s right eyeball. The mistake came to light only when bandages were removed from the eyes on August 28.
Workshop concludes
The four-day workshop on Access to Social Sciences Information organised jointly by the ICSSR NASSDOC, New Delhi, and the Centre for Research in Rural and Industrial Development concluded here today. More than 20 social scientists, teachers, librarians, heads of government institutions and college/university representatives participated. Advisor to the Administrator, Vineeta Rai, chaired the valedictory session and presented certificates to the participants.
