MUMBAI, June 26 26: In a minor victory for those upholding the cause of Marathi as a legal language, the Bombay High Court has ordered due weightage be given to Marathi typists and shorthand stenographers seeking the recently advertised posts of clerk in Thane district court.
Advocate Shataram Datar had filed a petition in April this year challenging an advertisement issued by the Thane district court. As per the ad, issued to fill up vacancies of 100 lower division clerks, the required qualification was English typing speed of 40 words per minute8217;. The condition showed that the Thane court was not serious about implementation of Marathi, the petition argued.
The division bench of Justice A V Sawant and J A Patil had admitted this petition.
