MUMBAI, April 13: Social activist Anna Hazare was today released on personal bond of Rs 5,000 with surety of like amount by a metropolitan magistrate here in a defamation suit filed against him by Maharashtra’s Social Welfare Minister Babanrao Gholap. Hazare was arrested following an application moved by his lawyer before additional chief metropolitan magistrate KH Holambe Patil wherein it was urged that the social activist was willing to surrender on such terms and conditions as the court may deem fit.
Since the complainant was not present, his lawyer sought for a long adjournment which was objected to by Hazare’s counsel P Janardhan on ground that both the sides had mutually agreed to expedite the matter. The suit would now be heard on April 27 when the Minister would step into the witness box for recording of evidence.
