Has corruption increased in Gujarat?

How has the government tackled corruption? Has corruption increased during the last five years or has the Modi dispensation been able to check its spread? The findings of Indian Express-CNN-IBN-CSDS throw some light on the issue of corruption in Gujarat.

In all, about 36 per cent of respondents believe that corruption has increased during the last five years. That corruption has been controlled or decreased has only few takers8212;about 14 per cent. People living in both rural and urban areas and belonging to different age groups hardly differ in their opinion.

But there is a class divide here. The rich and middle class appear to be more vocal about corruption in the state during the last five years. About 43 per cent of the rich say that corruption has increased and another 26 per cent among them think that it8217;s the same. If you club the two figures, about 69 per cent of the rich are quite clear that corruption has either increased or is the same but not declined during the last five years. The middle class in Gujarat seems to agree.

Is the perception of corruption likely to affect voting preference in Gujarat? While those who believe that corruption has increased are more likely to vote for the Congress, a majority of those who think that corruption has either declined or remained the same are likely to choose the BJP.
