Govt engineering attacks: Nene

PUNE, Jan 6: Prominent thinker R P Nene has accused the Vajpayee Government of engineering attacks on Christians in Gujarat to divert the attention of masses from the failures of his government. He was addressing a meeting, jointly organised by Dalit Mahila Forum, Pepole’s Union for Civil Liberties and Women’s Study Group of University of Pune.

Nene pointed out that the attacks on Christians were not confined to Gujarat. Such attacks were taking place in Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Karnataka and Rajasthan. He observed that the attacks had to be condemened by the all who had faith in democracy.Suhas Palshikar,thinker, said the attacks were neither religious nor cultural but were political in nature. Palshikar said that 80 per cent Hindu community should not feel any threat from two per cent Christian community.

Lata Bhise of Dalit Mahlia Forum and Nirmala Bhakre Dalit Christian Mahila Association also spoke at the meeting, which was presided over by Vidyut Bhagwat.
