Govt accepts Kiran Bedi8217;s retirement plea

After dithering for a month and a half, government has finally accepted the voluntary retirement plea of the country's first woman IPS officer Kiran Bedi, who at times got into controversies during her tenure.

After dithering for a month and a half, government has finally accepted the voluntary retirement plea of the country8217;s first woman IPS officer Kiran Bedi, who at times got into controversies during her tenure.

The government decided to relieve Bedi, who was holding the post of the Director General of Bureau of Police Research and Development, from her duties on Monday.

8220;I have received the letter relieving me from the government,8221; Bedi said. She has since given up her charge at the BPR and D.

Sulking after being ignored for Delhi Police Commissioner8217;s post earlier this year, the Magsaysay awardee submitted her application on November 15, saying she wanted to quit to pursue 8216;strong academic and social interests8217;.

Government had last week indicated that it would continue to avail of the services of Bedi for its project of National Police Mission, but she rejected the offer saying she was not willing to work 8216;for the government8217; anymore.
