PARIS, July 13: Croatian striker Davor Suker won the Golden Boot award as top scorer of the World Cup with six goals.

His strike in Croatia8217;s 2-1 win over the Netherlands in Saturday8217;s third place play-off took him one clear of Gabriel Batistuta of Argentina and Christian Vieri of Italy, each on five.

It would have needed at least a hat-trick in France8217;s 3-0 win over Brazil in Sunday8217;s final for Suker8217;s tally to have been overtaken.

And although Zinedine Zidane scored twice for France, only Ronaldo had any realistic chance of overhauling Suker. But the young Brazilian striker was off-colour and failed to add to his haul of four goals.
