
CHANDIGARH, Aug 18: Surinder Bhardwaj, president of the local unit of Janata Dal (United) has appointed Goggi Sharma as the vice-president of the party with immediate effect. Goggi has been a prominent social worker in the city and her appointment has been cleared by the party president Sharad Yadav. RRD launches campaign in villages n ALL Bihar and UP Welfare Association, through their presidents G.B. Yadav and Chotte Lal Tewari, have extended their support in favour of Rashtriya Raksha Dal candidate Col Harsharan Singh (retd). Starting his election campaign, Col Harsharan Singh today visited Khuda Ali Sher, Khuda Lahora, Khuda Jassu and Sarangpur.
Pawan Bansal’s candidature welcomed
In a meeting held here today, general body of the Capital Builders Association thanked Congress president Sonia Gandhi for allotting the Chandigarh ticket to Pawan Kumar Bansal in view of the fact that he has an impeccable record of tireless service to the people of the UT. In a press note issued here today, chairman of the Association also stated that the members had further resolved to work for the success of the Congress candidate.
Congress flays Gurbachan
A large number of Congress leaders have condemned the action of former CTC general secretary Gurbachan Singh, for having filed his nomination papers from the Nationalist Congress Party ticket.Congressmen Surinder Bhatia, O.P. Verma, Subhash Chawla, Kamlesh Vijaypal Singh Dimpy, D.D. Surjit Chaudhary, Harish Kapoor, Pardeep Chhabra, Sandeep Singh, Lalit Joshi, H.S. Lucky and Parampal Matharu said that Gurbachan Singh was never a committed Congressman, which he has proved by the action now. All the leaders also supported Bansal and said that such elements who weaken the Congress should be thrown out of the party.
Advocates support Sharma
A number of advocates of the Punjab and Haryana High Court and Chandigarh District Courts today hailed the candidature of Krishan Lal Sharma as the party candidate for the lone Chandigarh parliamentary constituency. The reception in this regard was held at Sector 18 Rotary Club yesterday, where former BJP MP Satya Pal Jain was also present.
