
Panaji, Nov 16: Goa Panchayats Minister Surendra Sirsat has stated that the new Panchayat Raj Act would be amended in ensuing Assembly session to delegate more powers to the elected representatives of Panchayat institutions to enable them to take up socio-economic activities in rural areas.
The Panchyat Minister was speaking at a function of National Social Service NSS camp organised by Dhanaprasarak Mandal8217;s college of arts, Sheela Vaidya college of science and V N S Andekar college of commerce held at Arambol in Pernem taluka on Sunday. Sangeeta Parab, MLS, Savitri Gadekar, sarpanch and Ulhas Sawant, secretary, Dhayanprasarak Mandal were special invitees, on the occasion.
Sirsat listed various schemes being implemented under the rural development authority and called upon the unemployed educated youth to come forward to avail benefit to start their own venture or business.
He regretted that development works carried out under RDA in village Panchayats was of poor quality and told to constitutevigilance committees comprising citizens and Panchayat members to monitor such RDA works to avoid poor quality construction works. The Panchayat Minister highlighted the importance of NSS activities and sugggested the students for active participation in extra-curricular activities to develop their career.
