Poll-eve tricks
Come elections and politicians come up with tricks to woo the voters. Former Chief Minister of Goa Ravi Naik has brought out an audio cassette which purportedly carries the voices of prominent personalities endorsing his candidature.
Rumour mongering
Last year the BJP received a severe drubbing in the North when rumours spread that the Government dumped tonnes of onions at Pokharan to contain nuclear radiation. The shortage of onions of course helped the rumour mongers.
With elections to the Goa Assembly scheduled for this week, the India-Pakistan confrontation in Kashmir has come in handy for BJP8217;s rivals. Word is out that Vajpayee is bombing Pakistaniinfiltrators with an eye on the ballot box.
Who is spreading the rumours is anybody8217;s guess, but BJP campaigners are thinking twice about heaping ridicule on Sonia Gandhi8217;s resignation drama.Sonia go back!
Congressmen in Goa have sent back posters and banners featuring Sonia Gandhi which was given to them for propaganda. No, they are not rebels, but Governor JFT Jacob is strictly implementing the Prevention of Public and Private Properties Defacement Act. Politicians have to now buy advertising space in hoardings and newspapers.
Indira revisited
Sonia Gandhi8217;s election campaign in Goa on Sunday had Congressmen drawing parallels with her mother-in-law. Not only did Sonia Gandhi address the gathering pallu draped over head, the venue had giant cut-outs of Indira Gandhi and her daughter-in-law. Rajiv Gandhi of course, was conspicuously absent on cardboard. All that was missing was the senior Gandhi8217;s obligatory introduction in the local language. Sonia Gandhi spoke entirely in English.
