
NEW DELHI, NOV 23: Goa Chief Minister Wilfred D8217;Souza has stated that the Legislative Assembly session will not be advanced and will be held on December 2 as per schedule. And on December 2, his Government is ready to prove strength on the floor of the house.
Discounting the demand to advance the Assembly owing to resignation of some of his ministers and crisis in his Government, D8217;Souza wrote to the Prime Minister today and enclosed a copy of the Cabinet8217;s decision dated November 23. He told the Prime Minister that under the rules the power is vested either with him or the Cabinet to consider a suggestion to advance the session.
The Cabinet unanimously decided that 8220;as on date, there is no notice of vote of confidence in the Ministry and therefore there is no course of action for advancing of the scheduled Assembly session.8221;
Meanwhile, D8217;Souza and Goa Governor J F R Jacob are heading for a confrontation over the issue.
The trouble arose when the Governor advised the state government to bring theLegislature8217;s winter session forward, so that the Chief Minister could seek a vote of confidence and solve the political crisis in the state.
Subsequently, D8217;Souza agreed after meeting senior Congress leaders at the Cabo Raj Niwas, the Governor8217;s residence, on Sunday night, but changed his mind on Monday morning.
