CHANDIGARH, JUNE 8: The Government Medical College and Hospital, Sector 32, will soon start postgraduate courses at the institute, in addition to the MBBS degree being presently offered.
Hospital sources say that since the college has been granted permanent recognition by the Medical Council of India, the recognition by Panjab University and the MCI would not be a problem.
The postgraduate courses will provide speciality in streams like MS, MD and M.Sc in anatomy. Sources said that courses will commence in 12 to 14 specialities in the streams of medicine and surgery. This is besides the course in M.Sc in anatomy meant for non-doctors.
This will be the first time that a course in M.Sc anatomy will be started, the same not being offered even by the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research, say hospital authorities. The course has been started keeping in view the high demand for it.
The modalities required for the initiation of the courses are being worked out, with a committee formed by PU to inspect the facilities at GMCH. The committee, headed by Dr B. K. Sharma, director, PGI, is yet to specify a date for inspection.
