Every once in a while, someone comes up with an idea, simple yet radical, a result of technological superiority and good overall appeal. This is the story of one such idea. It is the result of combining web surfing with Internet Relay Chat and online messaging. Add to that Internet TV, streaming video and news and you get Gooey.
This technology is called Dynamic Roving Communities DRC. It is fast changing the face of the Internet, making it the no walls8217; exchange medium it was intended to be. At its core, Gooey is the integration of real-time chat and Internet messaging with streamed TV, videos and news feeds.
It has features like private chats, options to ignore, file transfer capabilities and buddy lists. A noteworthy feature, which is a shot in the arm to individual online privacy, is the reverse list; the ability to remove your nickname from other users8217; lists. This software works in tandem with your browser.
When you browse, Gooey connects to the website and presents you with the list of peopleconnected to the same site. You could also use the Spike To Website feature and rove the Internet while continuing to chat on a different server. Get it?
Using Gooey is as simple as the installation. Start your web browser and Gooey starts up too; you are asked to enter some details and register, obtain a nickname and password, after which you can log onto any server and start chatting. Gooey opens up in three windows; add to this private chat windows and it8217;s time for you to go oooh and aaah at the features. The main windows can be reduced to a single window if needed, although this hides many of the advanced features.
The main window holds the chat box in which group chats and the video/news feeds are displayed. The second window is the nicknames box. Private chats and other Gooey resources; file transfers for example, can be accessed by right clicking a name from here. The most visible window because of its colour is the Hitwave box. The Hitwave is a frequently updated list of top 100 siteswhere maximum Gooey users are currently logged in. The colourful and animated multimedia box is in the Gooey main screen.
There are options for Internet TV, video streams, news tickers and animations. The TV has a choice of 3 channels, Bloomberg TV 24-hour news/info, Fashion TV and NASA and some video streams. To round it off, there are award-winning animations and CGI cartoons under the animations section.
Hypernix, the makers of Gooey, are marketing it as the complete communication product for the Internet. It8217;s a bit hasty to give it that distinction just yet, as it lacks real-time voice chat. Also its interface, although fancy to look at, rates seven on a scale of one to 10 terms of functionality; the many windows that Gooey opens are often distracting and get in the way of other open windows.
Gooey delivers a package that is making the Internet a friendlier, less solitary place. In the words of Shai Adler, Co-CEO of Hypernix, who compares the Internet to an empty restaurant, 8220;Even if the food ina restaurant is good, most people wouldn8217;t like to sit there alone.8221; With Gooey, you can talk to the waitress too!
