Easy to cheat on dope tests

Bonn: Top German swimmers Chris Carol Bremer and Mark Warnecke have said doping was widespread in their sport and it was possible to pass dope tests successfully while on banned drugs.

8220;In the bags of swimmers everywhere you will find testosterone and epo erythropoietin,8221; Bremer, a bronze medallist in the 200m butterfly at the 1994 World Championships in Rome, told German television ARD.

8220;It is possible, with pills or injections, to stay just under the authorised level8221; Warnecke, Olympic 100m breaststroke bronze medallist, supported Bremer8217;s statements.

8220;It8217;s like a driver who would be found to have 0.4 grams of alcohol per litre of blood. He can say he didn8217;t drink anything but everybody knows that8217;s not true.8221; The drink-driving limit in Germany is 0.5 grams.8220;With the help of a good sports doctor you can take stuff all year long,8221; said Warnecke. 8220;If it8217;s done properly, you won8217;t fail a test.8221; Bremer and Warnecke are both medical students.

Left-handed pat for athletes

Singapore: Prime Minister Goh Chok Tong has paid tribute to Singapore athletes and officials who braved ridicule from Malaysians during the recent Commonwealth Games in Kuala Lumpur. 8220;Our athletes might not have won any medals but their performance under pressure has won our respect,8221; Goh was quoted as saying. Singapore athletes were targetted by Malaysians audiences during last month8217;s Games, which occurred amid a fresh low in relations between the two neighbours over irritants dating back to their 1965 separation.
