Johl, Ghei move to fifth spot

SHANGHAI: India’s Amandeep Johl and Gaurav Ghei finished with identical gross of one-under 210 to move into fifth spot after three rounds in the $ 4,00,000 Volvo Classic Golf Open today.

Jyoti Randhawa aggregated 217 to slip to 36th spot while Arjun Singh (222) and Arjun Atwal (224) were trailing at 54th and 63rd places respectively. Leading the pack was Myanmar’s Kyi Hla Han. Han carded a five under par 67 to open a four stroke on 11 under par 205.

Dutch striker loses eye in stabbing

TOKYO: Dutch striker Boere Jeroen has lost an eye after a stabbing incident in a bar, Japanese media said today. The 31-year-old, who scored nine goals in 11 matches for Omiya Ardija in the Japanese football league, was involved in a fight at about 4 a.m. Friday. Two assailants, apparently foreigners, attacked the player after an argument with Jeroen’s group, which included his wife. No arrests have yet been made.

US negotiations on with ICC

LONDON: United States hasalready started pushing for significant guarantees from the International Cricket Council (ICC) before they embrace the gentleman’s game into their fold.

US cricket officials would raise the issue in a meeting with ICC at Orlando, sources said here. ICC president Jagmohan Dalmiya said the meeting was very vital as it would decide whether the ICC knockout tournament scheduled for next year should be held at Disney World in Florida.

Tyson wins parole from Maryland jail

ROCKVILLE: Former heavyweight champion Mike Tyson won parole Friday from a one-year prison sentence he received for assaulting two motorists last August after a minor traffic accident in suburban Washington, state officials said.

In a ruling that paves the way for his long-awaited return to the boxing ring, the Maryland parole commission voted 5-1 to grant Tyson an early release no later than June 4.
