Gill withdraws junior team from Poland hockey tournament

The fierce squabbling between the newly formed ad-hoc hockey committee and the disbanded KPS Gill-led IHF has resulted in India's junior team being scrapped from an international hockey tournament in Poland.

The fierce squabbling between the newly formed ad-hoc hockey committee and the disbanded KPS Gill-led IHF has resulted in India8217;s junior team being scrapped from an international hockey tournament in Poland.

The IHF, which was suspended by the Indian Olympic Association after an emergency executive meeting in April pulled the team out of the four-nation Under-21 tournament through a letter.

The organisers promptly scrapped India and invited Austria to take part in the competition, to be held from June 11 to 15.

When the ad-hoc committee, which is running the hockey affairs following the dissolution of the IHF, came to know of this development and they made an effort to include the team again but the organisers did not relent.

Gill has challenged the IOA8217;s decision to disband the IHF in the court and in a show of defiance has continued to use the erstwhile oragnisation8217;s letterhead for communications.

IOA-appointed selection panel chief Aslam Sher Khan accused Gill of resorting to cheap tactics after being sacked as the IHF chief.

8220;After being sacked as IHF chief, Gill has stooped down to ruining our children8217;s future. It was India8217;s junior team,8221; Aslam said.

8220;That he is resorting to such tricks, which are also denting India8217;s reputation, proves how we former players were right in asking for his removal,8221; he said.
