The latest issue of the Organiser carries a lead story titled 8220;Individual Efforts Bring India Olympics Glory.8221; It says: 8220;With three medals in its kitty including a gold in individual events, could the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games be a turning point for Indian sports with wrestler Sushil Kumar getting the country a bronze in wrestling after a gap of 56 years and boxer Vijender Kumar having qualified for the semifinals 8230; What a day it has been for Indian sport this August 20, for, ironically it was on this day that the Indian cricketers won the second one day international cricket against Sri Lanka8230;8221; The story adds: 8220;Ironically, the hosts and our neighbours China dominated the show pushing the superpower of sports, USA, to second spot by winning the highest number of medals. Surely a lesson in this for this country that it is time we started encouraging sportsmen and not just all the time focussing on the men in flannels or the 8216;men in blue8217; as our cricketers have come to be known.8221;

Modi knows best

The editorial in the RSS journal titled 8220;Modi makes a point8221; says: 8220;At last the UPA government has declared that the SIMI is a terrorist outfit, with links with other Islamic terror outfits and that it is waging a war against the Indian state. In this the Centre has requested the Gujarat government to share the proof it has accumulated in connection with the terror attacks in Ahmedabad and Surat8230;8221;

8220;The Centre, in an elaborate mass of evidence provided before the Supreme Court to press the ban on the outfit which has been found to be increasingly involved in terrorist attacks and anti-India activities, said that SIMI was spreading the message of jehad and at the same time 8216;extended full support to extremists and terrorists in J038;K and Punjab and have been involved in various militant and disruptive activities in Maharashtra, Kerala, UP and Tamil Nadu8217;. The hard-hitting affidavit on SIMI this time is designed to overcome the loss of face it suffered when the Unlawful Activities Prevention Tribunal on August 6, turned down the ban citing incoherent and insufficient evidence submitted by the Home Ministry8230;8221;

The editorial concludes: 8220;The BJP Chief Minister of Gujarat accomplished what no other state government could in all these years. Modi led from the front. In the process he set an example before the nation that the terrorist shenanigans cannot hoodwink the commitment of a zealous patriot.8221;

Power and glory

A report quotes RSS second-in-command Mohan Bhagwat saying that 8220;Only strong India will ensure happy world.8221; It notes: 8220;In order to achieve unity and fraternity amongst Hindus all over the world organisations like the Hindu Swayamsevak Sangh and Bharatiya Swayamsevak Sangh have been working. Once in four years training camps are held in India to train the karyakartas of these organisations. The camp this time was held in Hyderabad. RSS sarkaryavah Mohan Bhagwat speaking on the occasion narrated how in the olden days students from other countries used to come to India in pursuit of knowledge8230;What can India give to the world? Is India in a position to give? World is looking to India for solutions to many of the ills plaguing it. India has to share her thoughts with the world and the world should get faith in India and her ability. World peace is likeable for Indians whereas power is likeable for other countries. We have to speak in a language which they understand. For that we have to become strong8230;8221;
