Even as the tussle between the government and the Opposition on Gen Pervez Musharraf8217;s dual position and his constitutional amendments persists, reports of a rift between him and Prime Minister Mir Zafarullah Khan Jamali have also surfaced.

The rift, according to reports in the South Asia Tribune, began when managing director of Pakistan Television PTV Yousaf Baig Mirza was sacked allegedly for refusing to oblige an advisor of the PM. Next, the PM8217;s office transferred a police officer on charges of corruption but Gen Musharraf stopped it.

It is reported that the people responsible for this rift are Gen Musharraf8217;s friend and Muslim League QA8217;s President Choudhry Shujaat Husein. The latter, it may be recalled, had refused to head the joint Government-Opposition committee which Jamali set up to sort out differences between the Government and the Opposition over Gen Musharraf8217;s dual position.

The press came to know of the brewing differences when Jamali8217;s personal staff were sacked. It was said the sacked officers were misusing the PM8217;s authority. The Musharraf camp suspects Jamali has been in touch with the Sharif brothers and the Pir of Pagara to reunify the Muslim League.
