Of late, Anant Geete, leader of the 11-member Shiv Sena group in the Lok Sabha, seems to have acquired an altogether different persona. Once a very sober and disciplined member of the House, Geete is at his disruptive worst these days. To start with, he was at the centre of a disturbance when President Pratibha Patil was addressing the joint session of Parliament at the beginning of the Budget Session. Then, he created a scene in the Lok Sabha before Finance Minister P Chidambaram presented the Budget. Later, he caused heartburn with a particularly uncharitable remark about people from Bihar when the House was discussing the anti-North Indian drive in Maharashtra. According to sources, Geete is currently the target of a faction within the Sena campaigning to undermine his position. He is obviously under great pressure to demonstrate his relevance in Delhi to his master in Mumbai. What better way for this than to be in the eye of the storm!
