VADODARA, June 18: The Gujarat Electricity Board GEB will submit a memorandum to the Central Government team on Friday seeking assistance of nearly Rs 400 crore towards losses incurred during the cyclone, which hit parts of the State last week.

Board Member Technical K K Vaghela told Express Newsline late on Thursday evening that the memorandum would be part of the total demand for assistance which is to be put up by the State Government.

Meanwhile at 3.18 p.m. on Thursday, the Board managed to synchronise one unit of the Sikka sub-station. With the restoration of the sub-station Jamnagar and surrounding areas have received electricity. Restoration of the sub-station was delayed on Wednesday as the insulator of the Jamnagar-Nageri-Sikka transmission line had become weak.

Vaghela said the staff had rushed to Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan to fetch electricity poles, but added that the GEB had a stock of 47,000 poles.

About 100 diesel generating sets to be provided by the Japanese government, he said the Board on Thursday sent a fax message informing that the sets would be installed in Kalyanpur, Jamkhambhalia and Kalyanpur talukas of Jamnagar.

According to an official spokesman, the Board till Thursday night restored 95 out of the 115 sub-stations affected during the cyclone. The spokesman further said till date power supply was restored in 12,224 villages and 17,016 electricity poles were erected and 3,022 feeders restored. On Wednesday, the Board restored power in five areas of Kutch, including the IFFCO township.

Vaghela informed that the Board had approached the Power Finance Corporation PFC for loans. The Corporation assists for transmission lines above 66 KV. He, however, said a detailed estimate would be submitted after the Board undertook a survey.
