Garkhal traders protest development plan again

Hundreds of villagers today again raised their voice against the implementation of the proposed Kasauli Development Plan in 12 gram panchayats of the township and its adjoining areas.

Hundreds of villagers today again raised their voice against the implementation of the proposed Kasauli Development Plan in 12 gram panchayats of the township and its adjoining areas.

Irked over the decision of the government, the traders of Garkhal town today again downed their shutters as a mark of protest, for over two hours. Kasauli MLA Dr Rajeev Sehjal said that the issue will be taken up with the government, in the larger interest of farming community of the area.

Officials of the Town and Country Planning Department including Director Amar Singh, State Town Planner AR Sankhyan and Solan Town Planner Sandeep Sharma visited Garkhal today. The officials assured the villagers and the public representatives that their suggestions and objections would be considered. But the protesters, under the banner of Gramin Adhikar Sanghrash Samiti GASS, outrightly rejected their pleas.

The protesters shouted slogans, demanding exclusion of all the panchayats from the development plan. They urged that the plan should be implemented only in Kasauli Cantonment. The protesters asserted that the 8216;tedious process8217; for obtaining permissions to construct houses, hotels, guest houses, flour mills and even cowsheds would halt the development of the region.
