
Sourav Ganguly returned home to an emotional welcome at the Kolkata airport on Tuesday evening, with the police even having to resort to a mild lathicharge to control fans who had turned up in great numbers to get a glimpse of the retired international cricketer.
Officials from the Cricket Association of Bengal CAB rolled out a red carpet for the former captain, presenting him with a basket of 113 roses.
Later, Ganguly said there was much to look forward to as he started a new life, and his priority was to see legendary Argentine footballer Diego Maradona.
Maradona will be in Kolkata on a two-day trip, and Ganguly, himself a keen football fan, is looking forward to catching up with the 1986 World Cup winning footballer.

He brought up the names of both Maradona and Pele when talking about his retirement.
