BANGALORE, OCT 3: Nineteen-year-old Rahul Ganapathy from Mysore pipped Digvijay Singh in the first hole play-off to clinch the title in the Karnataka Golf Association Amateur Championship, a classified tournament, at KGA Classic Course here today.
Rahul and 26-year-old Digvijay were tied for the top spot with a four round aggregate of 297. However, in the play-off, Rahul prevailed in the event which is also a selection trial tournament for the Bangkok Asian Games.
Amit Luthra of Delhi and N Mageshwaran of Madras Regimental Centre, Wellington, shared the third position with 299.
In the Inter-zonal event, North Zone `A’ comprising Harmeet Singh Kahlon, Digvijay Singh, Amit Luthra and Simarjeet Singh won the title with a total of 897. South Zone `A’ consisting of Gaurav Diwan, Rahul Ganapathy, C V Yadhvir and Sandeep Syal finished runners up with 899.
Rahul had two over 38 each while going out and coming back with bogeys on fifth, sixth, 14th and 18th holes. Digvijay Singh had a bogey on the first holeand a birdie on the fifth. However, his three bogeys in a row from eighth saw him tying up with Rahul at the end of the final round.
