PUNE, June 10: Barely a day after Arun Bhatia was ousted from the Pune Municipal Commissioner8217;s post, than the new incumbent Ratnakar Gaikwad revoked the suspension order of 20 top civic officials and directed them to immediately report for work.

Acting on Gaikwad8217;s directive, Additional Municipal Commissioner Deepak Kapoor signed the order which revoked the suspension. Bhatia had resorted to sections 29 and 26 of when he had suspended the officers for flouting service rules.

Kapoor told media persons that Gaikwad had said in the changed circumstances8217; it was vital to strengthen the administration and improve its efficiency. Moreover, show-cause notices had not been issued to the civic officials, following which the action of revoking the suspension order was taken on Thursday. Gaikwad also called a meeting of the officers who reported for duty and directed them to get on with their work, specially the road repairs required for the monsoon.

Twenty civic officials included City Engineer Madhav Harihar, Development Engineer Road P T Pawar, A N Patil, S N Jawdekar, R N Thorat, A R Galinde, A V Kalamkar, D S Kamble, P M Waghmare, Y S Khaire, M D Panvelkar, V Y Keskar, D S Kamble, S Navle, V M Kharvadkar, K D Pol, A N Petkar, R S Petkar, S K Thorat and S M Oak. They had protested against Bhatia8217;s style of functioning and gone on an indefinite protest leave since ten days. Bhatia had promptly suspended the officers.

Kapoor however said the decision regarding the remaining three officiers Hanumant Chavan and the other two from the electrical department would be taken after consulting a lawyer. They were suspended on other charges and legal opinion was necessary before taking any action. Legal opinion would also be taken in cases where First Information Report FIRs had been filed against corporators like Ulhas Dhole Patil and Abhay Chhajed, Kapoor said.
