
Coming from behind in the first set, Prakash Amritraj displayed brilliant tennis to claim his first ITF Futures title, as he beat top seed Karan Rastogi 7-6 7-5, 6-1 in the final of the 10,000 Sail-ITF Futures Men8217;s tennis event here today.
Prakash won a tight first set via the tie-breaker and unleashed his full array of shots as he claimed a straight-set victory.
The 24-year-old held his nerves to clinch a match that saw Rastogi take lead in the first set.
He broke Prakash in the fifth game of the first set to lead by 3-2 and then held his own to make it 4-2. But Prakash fired two aces to hold his game and an unforced errors by Rastogi in the 10th game helped Prakash get the break to level the set at 5-5.
Both players then held their serves to force a tie-breaker. It was a close affair, and honours were even till 5-5 before Prakash got a mini break and then held his own serve to win to make it 7-5 and win the set.
In the second set, the story was different and Rastogi looked completely off colour.
Prakash broke Karan in the very first game of the second set and then broke him again in the third to race to a 4-0 lead. Rastogi held in the fifth, but Prakash won the next two games to take the set at 6-1.
