BATHINDA, Dec 3: The district administration have sealed as many as 14 medical shops throuhgout the district after recovering non-billing intoxicant drugs from their possessions on Tuesday evening.

Deputy Commissioner Sucha Ram Ladhar told media persons yesterday that as many as four teams led by the executive magistrate with the assistance of officials of the Health Department conducted surprised raids on the medical stores and found a large number of intoxicant drugs in the form of injections and cough syrups, which being illegally sold by the chemists to the addicts.

Ladhar said the raids were conducted on a tip-off.The shops which have been sealed are Punjab, Bharat, Raju, R.K Mansa and Prince Medical Stores of Talwandi Sabo; Ravi, Shanker, J.A Mahadeva, Sachin and Rangika Medical Stores of Bathinda and Paharia Medical Store of Rampura Phul.

Ladhar said a drug inspector had been especially called to recheck the sealed stores on the request of chemists. He said that stringent action would be taken against them to curtail the drug addiction which was on the rise among youths.

Meanwhile, Chief Medical Officer Bawa Ram Gupta said on the direction of Punjab and Haryana High Court, an ultimatum had been served on quacks to discontinue their practice.
