SURAT, May 27: Four women bootleggers, running country liquor bhattis on the outskirts of the city, were arrested by the Prevention of Crime Branch team on Thursday, a police released issued here said.

They were arrested under the provisions of the Prevention of Anti-Social Activities Act PASA and will be escorted to different jails in the State to serve sentences.

The accused have been identified as Babli Jeevan Patel, a resident of Khajod village on the outskirts of the city, along with Sukhi Chhimka Patel, Ganga Ishwar Nathu and Sagai alias Sushila Hasmukh Kanji, all three residents of Magdalla village on the outskirts of the city.

According to the police, the accused, besides running the bhattis also supplied liquor in the city and had cases pending against them for which they had been also been arrested.

The Umra police, who made an application for their arrest, contended that their activities were an obstacle to maintenance of law and order and also hazardous to public health.

The release added that Babli Patel and Sushila Kanji would be escorted to the Sabarmati central jail, while Sukhi Patel and Ganga Nathu will be despatched to the Vadodara central jail.
