Want to buy a cellphone? Well the hottest machines are Nokia8217;s communicator or 9210 as it is called or even relative new entrant Mitsubishi Trium8217;s Mondo. The absolute dream machines are multimedia savvy and Mondo is even dubbed as a pocket PC. But both machines come at a price between Rs 44,000 and Rs 46,000 apiece. If you are a Nokia buff, you would want to go in for the 9210, which is a little bulky though. The Mondo is a PDA personal digital assistant look-alike which also acts as a phone. You could dial your ISP and download mail in a jiffy.

But if you are not a high-end user and prefer phones which are exclusive and a style statement yet not too harsh on the pocket, you could choose from Nokia8217;s models 8250 priced at Rs 18,100, 8310 available for Rs 23,900 and the recently introduced 5210 which is priced at Rs 13,999. All these phones are sleek, without an extended aerial, dual band, with Lithium Ion batteries which have a long life. Their talk time is also an attractive feature in the region of three and a half hours to four and a half hours. The standby time of these phones are anything between 50 to 150 hours.

But if you are adventurous and want to try a 8216;different8217; phone in this price segment you could go in for Siemen8217;s SL 45 is priced at Rs 26,750 or Motorola8217;s V3688 at Rs 11,995 or Samsung8217;s A 200 available for Rs 19,000 or N 200 priced at Rs 12,500, N 260 with a price tag of 13,995, A 400 for Rs 17,000 or the heavily advertised Blue8212;i available for Rs 15,500.

The Trium range also has something in your budget8212;the Eclipse8212;which is the first phone in the Indian market with a colour screen display. The phone is priced at around Rs 20,000 and will be launched in the Indian market soon. The phone is a GPRS phone which means it is internet capable and has fax and data sending and receiving capabilities. Another unique feature is the speaker phone which means it is hands-free without any wires and earphones being attached. The same company also has a variation called Sirius which is also similarly priced. But if you are a consumer who buys and uses a cellphone purely to stay connected and don8217;t want anything very fancy, the choice varies from Nokia8217;s 3310 priced at Rs 7,500 and Rs 9,500 for a 3350. Siemen8217;s models C35 i is available for Rs 6,000, M 35 i at Rs 5,800 and C 45 for Rs 10,995.

Motorola8217;s T 190 is available at Rs 6,995 and Samsung8217;s R 220 for Rs 8,995. Mitsubishi Trium8217;s Mars is available for Rs 5,995, Aria for Rs 7,000 and Cosmo, the lightest phone weighing 69 grams comes with a price tag of Rs 7,999.

All these prices are showroom prices which give you phones with a proper warranty varying between one year and 18 months. But if you don8217;t fancy these frills, you could try the grey market where phones are cheaper by 20 to 25 per cent but do not come in with a guarantee. Moreover, the prices of these phones vary on a daily basis depending on the availability.
