Suspended Samajwadi Party member and Agra MP, Raj Babbar, is going back to doing what he knows best8212;acting, this time in a television serial.
Babbar has signed a contract with Doordarshan to produce and star in a 150-episode serial on the Lion of Punjab, Maharaja Ranjit Singh. The self-financed film will be called Lord of the Five Rivers and will cover the life and times of Ranjit Singh from 1739 to 1839.
Babbar said, 8216;8216;Maharaja Ranjit Singh is perhaps one of the greatest secular rulers of his time. His 40-year-reign has lessons for us even today. He ruled over a population which comprised 85 per cent Muslims, the rest were Hindus and Sikhs. He did not believe in capital punishment and encouraged harmony among all communities.8217;8217;
On his political future, Babbar said he was not in a mood to make any move in a hurry. 8216;8216;I will wait for my party to take a decision on me and then decide,8217;8217; he said. 8216;8216;I will take my cause of ridding politics of 8216;fixers8217; to the people. I hope to make it a public movement, because only the people can rid public life of this malaise,8217;8217; he added.
Babbar says he has already got a commitment from political stalwarts like former prime minister V P Singh, as well as socialist leaders like Madhukar Dighe and Rameshwar Singh.
8216;8216;Once the Budget session begins, I will get MPs from like-minded parties to form a pressure group within Parliament,8217;8217; he said.
