
PUNE, June 18: A five-year-old boy was killed when the school gate fell on him at a PMC-run school No. 29 at Gultekdi, this afternoon.
Altaf Shaikh, a resident of Dhole Mala in Gultekdi, was killed when he was playing near the gate. According to the Swargate police, the gate fell on the boy injuring him grievously. Ironically, the school was closed it being a holiday.
The boy was rushed to a nearby hospital and later shifted to KEM hospital. In the evening he was again shifted to Ruby Hall, but it proved to be too late as he succumbed to his injuries.
The school supervisor had made repeated complaints to the PMC regarding the state of the gate. But the delay in taking any action proved fatal for the boy.
Municipal Commissioner Ratnakar Gaikwad and the ward corporator from the area Ramesh Khanna visited the spot and Altaf8217;s family.
