Five more dengue cases reported

Five cases of dengue have been reported in the city in the last 48 hours. While the Kolkata Municipal Corporation says 72 people have been affected by the vector-borne disease so far in the city, unofficial records claim the figure to be much higher.

On Wednesday, three persons have been suspected of being affected with dengue in Muraripukur. Their blood samples have been sent for tests. Mangala Das, a resident of New Alipore, was detected with dengue and admitted in a private nursing home in south Kolkata on Tuesday. A 12-year-old boy in Mominpur was also suspected to be affected with the disease. The KMC, has not yet confirmed the cases, as it does not have data collection system for dengue.

In South 24 Parganas, over 90 people have been reportedly affected with several vector-borne diseases, including dengue, malaria and chikungunya.

The condition of two-year-old Sabina Khatun, who has been suffering from Japanese Encephalitis JE for the last one month, is deteriorating. She has been shifted to the M R Bangur Hospital.
