A long-drawn land dispute led to a house being torched in Bhandara district, 65 km from here, leading to the death of five people, four of them members of a family.
The incident occurred on Sunday night in Pimpri village, SDPO KM Beriya said.
8216;8216;Arun Mhaske, the alleged culprit, had a feud with his elder brother Shantaram 45 over the division of family8217;s seven-acre agricultural land. It is suspected to have led Arun to commit the act,8217;8217; Beriya said. He said four-five accomplices were reported to have accompanied Arun.
The dead have been identified as Shantaram Mhaske 45, his wife Mangal 37, sons Sonu and Monu aged 17 and 4 years and Siddharth Gajbhiye, a friend of Sonu from Ordnance Factory of Jawahar Nagar near Bhandara. The accused are absconding.
8216;8216;Gajbhiye had come for some work and had decided to stay back after it became dark. The killers didn8217;t even spare him. We suspect that the culprits probably killed their victims before setting fire to the house to destroy evidence. The post-mortem has been conducted,8217;8217; Beriya said.
Only last week, 13 members of a family were burnt alive in Andhra Pradesh8217;s Mehboobnagar district over a property dispute.
