MUMBAI, Jan 12: Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Sushil Kumar today stated that the Indian Navy would be modernised to become a first rate force8217; in the 21st century.

Addressing officers and men of the Western Naval Command at the INS Kunjali helibase in South Mumbai early on Tuesday morning, the CNS emphasised that 8220;Our motto must always be service before self.8221;

The CNS who is on a tour of all the three naval commands, was earlier presented a Guard of Honour and inspected a command ceremonial parade comprising all the ships and establishments of the WNC, at the base.

Recalling his earlier appointments as Flag Officer Commanding Maharashtra Area and Flotilla Commander in Mumbai, Admiral Kumar said the commendable operational readiness of the WNC was due to hard work put in by his predecessors.

He said that the nation expected the navy to do its duty and serve with honour and dignity. Later, the CNS went around various ships and installations of the WNC accompanied by the Flag OfficerCommanding-in-Chief Vice Admiral Madhvendra Singh.
