Fire engines to be equipped with GPS

The fire brigades in the city would soon be equipped with the Global Positioning System GPS. The decision was taken during a meeting of the Fire and Emergency Committee of the Municipal Corporation held under the chairmanship of councillor MPS Chawla.

The fire brigades in the city would soon be equipped with the Global Positioning System GPS. The decision was taken during a meeting of the Fire and Emergency Committee of the Municipal Corporation held under the chairmanship of councillor MPS Chawla.

The committee also decided to seal those buildings that have been served notices for violating fire safety norms if requisite changes were not made.

The members also sought to have training and awareness programmes to impart fire safety training through some specialised agency to the owners of buildings, petrol pumps, gas agencies, hotels and cinema halls.

They will be trained to use the installed fire fighting equipment. As many as five thermal imaging cameras would be purchased to meet any exigency caused by fire.

The committee has also decided to conduct a survey of rehri markets to assess its fire safety after reports of encroachments on the external walls of the shops in various rehri markets came up.

The committee has also approved a study tour of the members of the Fire and Emergency services committee and Fire Officers to Ahmedabad, Mumbai and Delhi where the fire offices are well-equipped with modern fire fighting equipments.
