
The Chief Electoral Officer, West Bengal, Basudeb Bandopadhyay, today lodged a First Information Report against the Left Front chairman and CPIM politburo member Biman Bose for his reported comments allegedly inciting people against EC observers.
The FIR was lodged with the Taltola police station in central Kolkata. Bose was booked on six counts, but barring in one, all other charges were said to be non-cognizable and bailable. The only cognizable but bailable section was 153 Indian Penal Code IPC, that relates to provocation to rioting.
A copy of the FIR was also served to the Commissioner of Police, Kolkata. H.P. Singh, Deputy Commissioner headquarters, said investigations would start at once but refused to elaborate on the steps the police would take. Bose, meanwhile, talking to media this evening, said: 8216;8216;Let the law take its own course.
