The Commonwealth Games Federation today said it was 8220;going through the process8221; in regard to the Indian weightlifter Satheesha Rai who failed the dope test during the just-concluded Commonwealth Games in Manchester.
8220;We are going through the process. In due course of time, we will make the decision known,8221; chief executive of the CGF Michael Hooper said here.
Hooper, however, declined to give details on the issue, saying that normal procedures were being followed.
The 28-year-old Rai, who won two gold and one bronze in the Games which concluded on Sunday, had tested positive for an unidentified stimulant, according to a senior Indian Olympic Association official.
The Indians will certainly appeal for a test of Rai8217;s 8216;B8217; sample when the CGF makes an official announcement.
If the B-sample also tests positive and Rai is stripped of his medals, India8217;s original haul of 32 golds will be reduced to 30, one less than Canada which will then climb to the third position behind Australia and England in the medals tally.
