
NEW DELHI, December 21: Helped by three penalty stroke conversions, Food Corporation of India began their campaign in the 19th Servo Sanjay Gandhi hockey tournament with a convincing 6-1 win over Khalsa Blue at the National Stadium here today. The winners, who led 3-0 at the breather, have entered the quarter-final league.
FCI forged ahead in the 15th minute through conversion of the team8217;s second penalty corner. Amarnath increased the lead in the 27th minute when he converted the team8217;s first penalty stroke award. two minutes later, Kurunesh further consolidated the lead with a field goal as Khalsa Blue struggled to keep the FCI forwards under check.
Soon after change of ends, FCI earned their second stroke8217; which was converted by Prabhakar in the 38th minute. Prabhakar once again was in action, scoring another goal in the 41st minute.
Khalsa Blue8217;s efforts finally bore fruit when Gurpreet Singh reduced the margin in the 45th minute. But nine minutes later, Kurunesh converted the team8217;s third stroke8217; to complete the tally for FCI.
Asjit shines
Asjit Jaiprakash8217;s all-round performance helped Telefunken beat Bank of India by nine wickets in a B division match of DDCA league.
